THE LADYBUG, SQUIRREL, AND EAGLE

They came to me a dream - a very strange dream indeed.  A ladybug, a squirrel and an eagle, each one appeared and shared advice.  To this day, I am not sure why.

Sitting in a lawn chair in my yard, a ladybug landed on my hand. To my surprise, it spoke in a voice that sounded just like my Aunt Leona.  The ladybug said:

  • "Here is my advice to you on this day -
  • Be well rounded.  Try many experiences and always learn more each day.
  • Be always on the alert to spot out opportunity.  Opportunity comes, not based on your time, but on the winds of life.
  • Spend time in the garden.  You will find peace and hear God's voice whispering in the winds."

At that, the ladybug flew away.

Then, walking in my yard, a squirrel came up close to me.  I stopped and looked at the squirrel, admiring the way his tail moved from side to side.  And once again, to my surprise, the squirrel spoke in a voice that sounded just like my best friend in high school, Bob Dennehy.  The squirrel said:

  • "Here is my advice to you on this day -
  • Eat a high fiber diet
  • Look twice before you cross the street
  • Always be busy.  For the harder you work, the luckier you become and you will find nuts everywhere."

At that, the squirrel whisked away.

Continuing on my walk, I looked to the sky. To my amazement, I spotted a large bald eagle.  The eagle dove down toward me and landed within a few feet of me.  And once again, to my surprise, the eagle spoke in a voice that sounded just like my Grandfather; a voice that I have not heard in over 25 years.  The eagle said:

  • "Here's my advice to you on this day -
  • You are meant to soar high and wide for your wings are strong and your vision great
  • Never underestimate the impact of your presence, your words, your actions, your behaviors.  All of these impact people in ways that you can't even imagine.
  • Always stand for something right, something bold, something that will make a difference.  Always be honest, be kind, be courageous, be humble, be grateful, be forgiving and love more each day."

At that, the eagle took flight and flew away.

I awoke from my dream - a very strange dream indeed.  I reflected on the advice for some time, and think about it often to this very day.

Until Next Friday,
