Forgiving Mistakes
/I was checking out of a Publix grocery store. I looked at the cashier's nametag as she was scanning my BOGOs.
"Thanks, Mary," I said cheerfully.
She handed me my receipt, said I saved $25.56, and smiled.
"You're welcome. But my name is actually Margaret."
Oh No!
I had read it wrong
I was in a hurry
I felt embarrassed
In hospitality, it is so important to get someone’s name right.
She just laughed, waved her hand, and said, "It happens to the best of us."
It was a simple moment. A small mistake, met with immediate grace and forgiveness.
No anger. No offense taken. Just a smile and a pass.
We all make mistakes. Some small. Some large. Some relatively unimportant.
The key to understanding is that when we make a mistake, we acknowledge it, learn from it, and try our best not to let it happen again.
This Friday, when someone makes a mistake, forgive them and move on. When you make a mistake, take it to heart, learn from it, and let it go.
Don’t let a mistake of others or your mistake hold you back from becoming a better version of yourself.
Forgive, forget, and move forward.
Until Next Friday,
Rob
