The Cup of Coffee
/I made a cup of coffee this morning.
Not a fancy latte
Just regular drip coffee
With some cream
I set it on the counter.
I said my morning prayers.
I checked my e-mail.
I answered a text message.
Showered, shaved, and dressed for work.
Driving in my car to work, I remembered that cup of coffee that I left on the counter.
· Cold
· Forgotten
· Left behind
“ I can’t believe I did this again.”
How many times do we do this with the people we love and the Team Members and guests we serve?
We check our phones
We answer e-mails
We delay our follow-up with a guest
We skip saying good morning to a Team Member
We make a cup of coffee and leave it aside.
This Friday, drink the coffee while it's hot. Hold your spouse’s hand and don’t let go. Listen to your child's story. Engage our guests with “How is your stay ?” Write a get-well card to a friend who is struggling. Offer a prayer of gratitude.
Be present. Be real. Be giving of yourself to others.
This is the essence of hospitality.
The e-mails can wait.
Until Next Friday,
Rob
