Fix the Door

The lower-level outside door hinge squeaks when you open or close it.

  • A high-pitched whine

  • A grating sound

  • A daily annoyance

For weeks, I ignored it.

For weeks, it continued to wince when I opened it.

For weeks, I told myself I would fix it. "I need to fix that before it breaks.”

Yesterday, I found a can of WD-40 oil in my garage.  I opened the door and applied some WD-40 to the three hinges. Then, swinging the door open and closed, I didn’t hear a sound.

It took exactly four seconds to fix.

Four seconds.

How many "squeaky doors" do we live with in our lives?

  • An unanswered call or text

  • An unsaid apology

  • The bad habit of saying “yum”, “you know,” or “no problem”

  • The huge weed growing in your driveway

  • The gossip you share

We let the friction build up, day after day, convincing ourselves it's just the way things are.

But a little effort can restore the peace, stop the drama, and create happiness.

This Friday, find your oil.

Fix the door.

Until Next Friday,

Rob
