What is Lost is Now Found
/This morning, I was searching frantically for my car keys.
I checked the kitchen counter where I always leave my keys
I checked my pockets
I checked my backpack
I even checked between the couch cushions in the living room.
“JoMaire (my wife), where are my keys?”
“Your keys are where you left them.” (said with a laugh)
I walked back and forth from the kitchen to the bedroom to my home office
I grew frustrated.
I started to panic.
I said a prayer to St. Anthony.
Then, I reached into my left pants pocket.
There they were. Right where I had left them.
How many times do we do this each day -
The deleted computer file found in our drafts folder
Trying to remember the name of the person we just met
The work project that was earlier not important, but now is the top priority
Trying to find our “To Do List”
We run back and forth, growing frustrated that we cannot find peace or joy until we find the answer and fix what was broken.
But the truth is much simpler.
Happiness and success are usually right where we left them.
In our hearts, in our homes, and in the faces of the people who love us.
This Friday, stop frantically searching.
Reach into your own life and appreciate what is already there. Do not go searching for something that is right in front of you.
Your great potential. Your smile. Your hope. Your strengths. Your family. Your friends.
What is lost is now found. Found in the simplicity of a child’s laughter, a firm handshake, a small genuine prayer, and an ice-cream cone on a hot summer evening.
Until Next Week,
Rob
