Light the Candle
/There is a beautiful, expensive candle sitting on our dining room table.
· It looks perfect
· It smells like almond
· It has a pristine, unburnt wick
It has been sitting there for two years.
My wife and I are waiting for a "special occasion" to light it.
Has this happened to you? Have you put off something or someone until the time is perfect?
We live our lives waiting for special occasions.
We wait to have a child until the purchase of a house, and we find someone to care for our child
We wait to use the good dishes and silverware for a time when we all can get together
We wait to make a time-critical business decision until we have all the information
We wait to send a birthday or a get-well card until we find “the right card”
We wait to say "I love you," “I am sorry,” or “thank you,” because we are waiting for the next time we talk, a special moment or place
Time waits for no one. We cannot store time and use it for another day.
We save our best efforts, our best things, and our best selves for a day that is not guaranteed to come.
Today is the only day we have.
Today is a gift.
Today is that special occasion.
Light the candle
Until Next Friday,
Rob
